Gonna move this to the General Chat board.
The only VN I've ever tried was a freeware PC game called Katawa Shoujo. It came out in 2012, and it garnered a little mainstream attention for some reason. I'm guessing because it was surprisingly well done considering its origins and subject matter. Basically, some anonymous 4chan users got together and made it based on an idea by a Japanese doujinshi artist about dating girls with various disabilities. It sounds incredibly exploitative, and considering it came from 4chan, you would probably expect it to be really offensive. However, it's actually surprisingly tasteful and respectful of its subject matter. The girls are never portrayed as victims of their disabilities; they're just normal girls who happen to have disabilities. (So does the boy you play as, actually.) It does, however, have some explicit X-rated content, but there's an option to disable it. Even then, there's still some nudity, so it might not be quite what you're looking for. Hardcore Gaming 101 has an article on it.It does have nice artwork, and some really beautiful music. I only tried it because I was curious and it was free, and I only played through one route. (Well, two if you count the secret joke ending.) I've never bothered with any other VNs since then, though.

You might remember last week, the day after the Nintendo Direct, Nintendo released a promo video for some kind of ring accessory for the Switch.
Well, it turns out it's for a game called Wii Fit RPG Ring Fit Adventure.
Coming out October 18.
Feels like a very Wii-era Nintendo product. Then again, I guess Labo kinda does, too.

Here's the trailer for Shizumaru, one of my favorite characters, who will be out on September 16.
Also, I guess that new Neo Geo hardware was just an arcade stick with some built-in games.

The new update is out, and it adds "Maddening" difficulty, which I assume is the equivalent of Lunatic. Also, male Byleth's English voice actor has finally been changed (after that controversy). I never got the expansion pass, and I don't plan to at this point. Still, the new costumes aren't all that exciting. There are athletic uniforms for most of the students, and just a pair of glasses for Byleth. I kind of imagined the costumes might be something cool, like Marth and Lucina outfits for male and female Byleth. Or better yet, Ephraim and Eirika outfits, since Byleth's hair color looks like them anyway. Full patch notes here.

I don't really know anything about sound fonts, either, but I think it's kinda interesting how European NES games had such a distinct sound, similar to how games sounded on those old European computer systems. They have a lot of "trills" and note-bending "whines." It's kinda hard to explain, but you probably know what I mean. Just listen to some of Rare's old NES soundtracks.

Apparently, Bayonetta 1 and 2 are being removed from the Wii U eShop in Japan and Europe on September 19. No word on North America yet, but it seems likely.
EDIT: Confirmed. The games leaving the NA Wii U eShop at the same time as the other regions.

And also a lot of "please don't be so good to me, I'll have to kill you guys later" moments. I'm on a chapter where I have to kill a number of students from other houses, and I'm wondering if this game will be too depressing for me to get through. Especially since it emphasizes the kills with dramatic death screams, and the camera wants to linger on their bodies. It really makes me feel the weight of it.

Finally! It's been nearly a year since I've posted in this thread. New trailer and details: Release date is January 23, 2020. Allows cross-platform multiplayer between Switch, PS4(!), and mobile. There's new post-game content, character skins (check the lilty wearing a mask of Jegran from The Crystal Bearers), and character voices (the original had no voicework for the characters). That's also a new vocal from Donna Burke you hear in the song in the trailer. She also re-recorded her narrations. (Same for the original Japanese singer/voice actor, Yae.) EDIT: Also new artwork for the cover of the Japanese physical release.

This may have been the location of SNK's original office. Also, let's appreciate how clever the reveal trailer was for Terry in Smash. My favorite part is Geese falling off the building (yet again) while leaping for the invitation. Honestly, I never would've believed Terry Bogard (or any SNK character) would've made it into Smash Bros. I know SNK is more popular in Asia than in Western regions, and Fatal Fury Special was actually super popular in Japan when it first came out, but it still seemed a little outside the scope of Smash. But no complaints from me, of course. But imagine, there's gonna be a Terry Bogard amiibo. I wonder if it'll actually be used for anything special outside of SSBU...

Well, classical music is public domain, and thus, no royalties have to be paid. That was actually pretty shrewd on Nintendo's part, as a number of early video games outright copied commercial music. This is mentioned in one of the threads you linked, but I keep thinking how Nintendo was going to use Ravel's Boléro as the title music for The Legend of Zelda until they found out it wasn't public domain. Imagine if that was the theme music, and we never got to hear Koji Kondo's iconic title theme we all know and love.

I'm sorry, I can't help it. I want to start a thread for this. Kinda hyped for it. Trailer: Character artwork: Xenoblade sure has come a long way. Next June will be the 10th anniversary of the Japanese release for the original game. Tetsuya Takahashi is incredibly ambitious, but it's kind of ironic how when he has tried to plan a series from the get go, it never panned out. Xenogears was supposed to be "episode 5" of a six part series that would span different types of media, but in the end, it never went past that one game. Xenosaga was, again, supposed to be a six part series, but only ended up with three episodes and a mobile spin-off. Xenoblade, on the other hand, was only intended to be just one big standalone game, and it's the one that has organically turned into a series that has, so far, spanned four games (counting Torna as a standalone). EDIT: Here's a thorough graphics comparison between the original Wii version and the Switch version. I've yet to see a graphics comparison that includes the New 3DS version, but I guess that's because it looks similar to (or worse than?) the Wii version. Although, I would like to see some side-by-side with Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

Well, I thought this was a pretty good Direct, even though it seemed to focus on games we already knew about. And I don't just mean leaks, but previously announced games. (Although speaking of leaks, have those been getting even worse lately?) Anyway, I won't go through the whole thing, but I'll just talk about a few points. - Terry Bogard in Smash UltimateWell, there really is an SNK character in Smash! I don't intend to buy Smash Ultimate just for Terry Bogard, but I love that he's in there, and I look forward to the inevitable amiibo. Also, the reveal trailer was cool. The funny thing is, I randomly started playing SNK Heroines again last week. The next day, the Japanese trailer for the Switch version of Samurai Shodown was released. A couple of days later, the rumor of an SNK character in Smash started circulating, and now it's official. In a strange way, I almost feel responsible for all this. Now, am I supposed talk about this in the SNK thread, or on the Smash Bros board??? - Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE EncoreLooks like I'll get a second chance at this game. But will the NA version be censored like it was on the Wii U? Oh, and Genki Yokota's response in that interview from a couple of months ago is even funnier now... RPG Site: One last thing... are you aware of the sort of immense fan fever, the demand, for Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE to come to Switch?
Yokota: Ahhh. [laughs] Well, thank you for the comment - I will go to Atlus, and perhaps we can talk about that! - Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive EditionSaved the best for last. I enjoyed the original Xenoblade when I first played it, but once I finished it, I never went back. However, after falling in love with XBC2, I've kinda wanted to revisit it. Aside from the graphical overhaul, it looks like it includes cut content. The area shown at the end of the teaser is in the data for the original game, but isn't accessible in normal gameplay. I wonder what other changes and enhancements it will have...
