Capcom is bringing back Ghosts 'n Goblins with a cheap-looking reboot!
Regardless, I'm looking forward to it, and I'm happy this series isn't dead (just undead).

It's Sephiroth.
I know a lot of people are excited for this, but another FF7 character doesn't do anything for me.
A full presentation with Sakurai is coming on December 17.

^ I got Ys Origin, also, but since it's a game I've played before, I thought I would save it for a rainy day.
My wishlist hasn't changed much, and I don't seem to stick to it very closely anyway. I am still considering Rune Factory, although I missed getting RF4S on sale a week or so ago. (It could go on sale again before the holidays are over.) Also, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. Maybe even Atelier Ayesha for the right price, but the Atelier games hardly ever seem to go on sale.
Funny story: When Rune Factory 4 Special came out in North America, Xseed offered the DLC for free for the first week or so. I found out that it was possible to download the DLC even if you didn't own the main game, so I got it hoping I'd still be able to use it if I ever did buy the game. It's been sitting on my Switch ever since.

Didn't know where to put this, so it gets its own thread. Here is a detailed history of Monolith Soft from Kotaku. It's one of the few resources I've seen that mentions Tetsuya Takahashi's early time at Falcom (mainly doing grunt work). It's a good read. It seemed like such a strange acquisition at the time, but it's really paid off for Nintendo. Would Breath of the Wild have been as grand without Monolith Soft's involvement? Not to mention how rare it is for Nintendo to financially invest in an external studio, especially these days. They mainly just seem to form close relationships with other game devs without putting money into them, as with Next Level Games, Intelligent Systems, and of course, HAL Labs.

I've now finished the main story. I actually really enjoyed it, and it really kept me engaged. It was quite a contrast to the minimal storytelling in Breath of the Wild, but it was great to see all the characters get more of a chance to shine. It was really satisfying.
I also want to say that the music in this game is really phenomenal. The soundtrack for the original Hyrule Warriors never really stood out to me. The music in Breath of the Wild is very low-key, but it's really pretty and works for the atmosphere of the game. Age of Calamity manages to capture the feel of Breath of the Wild's music, but embellishes it into something much fuller and more substantial. It's easily one of the best Zelda soundtracks I've heard in quite a while, if not ever. I absolutely love it!
[EDIT: Just noticed that Kumi Tanioka, of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles fame, was one of the game's composers! The others I'm not familiar with, though.]
I'll be working on post-game content now.

Getting back to talking about the games, SNK announced that the official reveal trailer for King of Fighter XV will be released on January 7. Also, they will be announcing the next two DLC characters for Samurai Shodown, including the Last Blade character.
Here is the announcement video:

A third round of crowd funding just finished, and it reached another stretch goal: a recreation of a stage from R-Type II as a bonus stage.
Also, it seems that they're planning DLC after release:

Here's a trailer for the grand opening of Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Japan.
Seems like a heck of a time to open something like this with the pandemic still going on. But I suppose Japan (and, well, everywhere) has it a lot more under control than here in the US.

So, I've been playing a lot of Age of Calamity this past week. This is the only other Warriors game I've played since the first Hyrule Warriors. While I was really looking forward to playing it, I was concerned that it wouldn't have the same appeal for me as the original. One of the things I loved about the original was the Smash Bros-like mishmash of Zelda elements from across the entire series. Obviously, I didn't expect that to be the case with Age of Calamity being themed only after Breath of the Wild. Also, the lack of the original's expansive adventure modes made me wonder if the content would be limited.
But I've been quite hooked on the game, nevertheless. There certainly doesn't seem to be a lack of content, and if the theme feels somewhat limited, it's more the fault of Breath of Wild than Age of Calamity (specifically in terms of enemy variety). I've been playing through the game methodically, doing all the side content before moving on with the story.
I'm impressed how Nintendo kept most of the story a secret beyond the initial stages of the game. I've been trying to avoid spoilers, although a few things have slipped by. It's gone off in some interesting directions, and also feels a little like fan fiction (in a good way). I'm looking forward to finding out if/how the story will even fit into Breath of the Wild when all's said and done.
I will say, though, I don't really care for the parts where you play as the divine beasts. I understand that they add some gameplay variety, but I just don't find them that much fun.
I'm also disappointed that I can't unlock the legacy Link costumes with my amiibo like I could in Breath of the Wild. I don't see any reason why every costume from BotW (yes, even Rex's salvager suit) can't also be available in AoC, but maybe it will be DLC. (And yes, I know about [spoilers], since it appears on the map. Also, it was carelessly used as a YouTube thumbnail.)
Anyway, these are my impressions so far. It's been great to revisit the world of Breath of the Wild in a new context.

EGDC is apparently planning to increase its share to 51 percent.
I feel bad for SNK.

So, this is... strange. According to Nintendo Life, a third of SNK's shares have been bought out by a Saudi Arabian company, Electronic Gaming Development Company (EGDC), and the deal was funded by the Saudi Crown Prince. I don't even know what to say about this.

The original Super Mario Maker will be removed from the Wii U eShop on January 13, 2021, and on March 31, it will no longer be possible to upload courses for it. ( Source) Here's the full statement: Discontinuation of certain services
From March 31st 2021, it will no longer be possible to upload courses in Super Mario Maker for Wii U. On the same day, the Super Mario Maker Bookmark website will also close.
It will still be possible to play courses uploaded before the service discontinuation.
In preparation for the discontinuation of these online services, Super Mario Maker for Wii U will be removed from sale on Nintendo eShop on January 13th 2021. It will still be possible to redownload the game after this date.
There is no impact on Super Mario Maker 2 for Nintendo Switch.
We would like to thank all players for supporting Super Mario Maker for Wii U over the past five years.
Planned service end date: March 31st 2021
Please note that depending on the circumstances, these services may be discontinued earlier than the above-mentioned date.
Services that will end - The ability to upload courses in Super Mario Maker for Wii U - The Super Mario Maker Bookmark website Due to this, the following features within the software’s Course World will also become unavailable: - Updating the ranking of liked courses - Looking up your bookmarked courses
An error message will be displayed when trying to access these discontinued services after their end date. I haven't loaded this game up in years. I'm curious to see if all my courses are still online. I never was motivated to get the sequel. I think I used up all of my course ideas in the first game, and I'm not interested in playing other people's murder machines. Also, the "costumes" (and amiibo support) aren't in the sequel. I imagine it would be a nightmare to maintain all of the licenses anyway, but still, they were pretty neat.

Finally got my copy delivered, but haven't gotten started on it yet.
Based on the demo, tho, I enjoyed playing as Zelda more than I thought I would. It was a little awkward at first because she fights using only the Sheikah Slate (don't know if she has any other weapons in this game), but once I got used to it, I found it to be really fun in that wacky Hyrule Warriors kind of way.

Unfortunately, the game seems to have leaked early. (This seems to be a normal thing now.) And even though the game hasn't officially launched, Nintendo has released a launch trailer:
On a side note, I'll be interested to see how the time travel aspect plays out. Seems like it could be a creative twist to telling a prequel story.
