Shoutbox

nocturnal YL: Of all the rumours on the Switch successor, the only thing I care about right now is whether it runs Switch games better than the original does. Maybe my Switch games will last long enough for the successor to get its own minor upgrade. May 1, 2024 8:25:37 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: The story of Atelier Escha & Logy did get better later on. I'm not a fan of the friendship level system in the Rorona-style games, which is the main contributor to my dissatisfaction towards Escha & Logy. It's otherwise pretty good. May 1, 2024 8:29:19 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: Finally got the needed friendship levels in Atelier Escha & Logy DX. Up until this point I've been thinking of ways to waste time in ways that are still useful enough to prepare for the extra boss fights. Don't think I'll be good enough for that though. May 6, 2024 12:44:07 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: Oh yeah, extra boss fights. They severely outrank base game enemies, and most of the time I don't really bother with them. I only fought all bosses in Rorona, Lydie & Suelle, Lulua, Sophie 2 and Ryza 3. That's about 1/3 of the ones I played. May 6, 2024 12:46:23 GMT -5 *
nocturnal YL: (1) Nintendo Switch's successor exists. (2) It will be announced at some point up to March 2025. (3) There will be a Nintendo Direct presentation in June. (4) Said presentation will not feature information regarding the Nintendo Switch successor. May 7, 2024 7:05:21 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: (5) Nintendo Switch has sold 141 million unitsin hardware and 1235 million units in software. (6) Nintendo expects to sell 13.50 million more this fiscal year. (7) 490 billion yen profit and 1671 billion yen in sales in FY 2024/3. May 7, 2024 7:08:51 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: Atelier Escha & Logy DX: Got over the final boss and got almost all of the character events. I'll probably start my Atelier Shallie DX run soon. May 11, 2024 7:52:11 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: It really leaves the best parts of the story to the very end. And my complaints of the long waiting time is still a very real one. And all those repeated refinements of character equipment makes the bosses excessively easy. May 11, 2024 7:54:43 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: And even so, the extra bosses are still impossible. I think I'll leave it at that, until I eventually get to my second, Escha run. Each alchemist has access to exclusive items; Logy's make him strong, while Escha's enable extreme item-spamming tactics. May 11, 2024 7:56:26 GMT -5
Nester the Lark: Sorry I've been so quiet on the forum lately. I've been distracted by other things. May 11, 2024 10:32:46 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: …And I've reached the ending of Atelier Escha & Logy DX! Pros: Excellent music, good late story, never crashed once in my playthrough, doesn't corrupt save data at the end. Cons: Repetitive gameplay, synthesis is essentially a worse version of Lulua. May 12, 2024 5:05:04 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: I'm thinking about writing a general overview of the latter half of the Atelier series, breaking down the various mechanics. I think it'd be better to do so after I've actually played all modern entries, and I'm almost there. May 12, 2024 5:06:46 GMT -5
Nester the Lark: NEWS: The two main class action lawsuits against Nintendo over joy-con drift have both been dismissed. May 13, 2024 17:34:57 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: ↑ Not surprising to see lawsuits ending this way. Out-of-court settlement saves everyone the hassle from proceeding in court. Interesting to see it getting dismissed this long after it started, though. May 14, 2024 9:35:26 GMT -5 *
nocturnal YL: Just started Atelier Shallie DX. Between the modern-looking graphics, battle system and finally having the ability to rotate the camera, it feels like Dusk's mechanics being ported to Sophie 1's base program. Stera is more naïve than I thought. May 15, 2024 7:55:46 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: At Chapter 4 (out of 10). Doing some research, I found that Atelier Shallie has no item cloning system and the Plus/DX version has seen quite a lot of balance adjustments made against the player. These changes far overcompensate for the lack of time limit. May 17, 2024 8:44:42 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: Back when I played Atelier Lydie & Suelle and Atelier Lulua, I thought I found an entire series of high-quality games. But while the past games are enjoyable and excel at some areas, the very high overall quality wasn't really there until Lydie & Suelle. May 17, 2024 8:47:41 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: This is not a complaint; just amused that prior to trying out more than half of the series, I thought I was missing out, but now it feels more like I jumped in right on time. May 17, 2024 8:49:31 GMT -5
Nester the Lark: And on top of that, you didn't seem to care for the Ryza trilogy. May 17, 2024 9:30:53 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: I do like Ryza 3. The story is eventually closer to what I wanted it to be, and the early availability of the advanced synthesis features made it a lot more enjoyable than Ryza 1. I consider the overall trilogy pretty weak, though. May 17, 2024 10:34:08 GMT -5
